The Quiet Trade

What if education is less about learning, and more about learning what to remember, what to forget, and how to compete?

The Quiet Trade

We learn early that a mind is an inventory.
You take the shelf space given to you,
Stack the formulas where the sunlight won’t fade them,
And dust the facts that guarantee a future.

Education here is a quiet trade.
You exchange the noise of the street for the discipline of a ruled page.
You swallow the sudden revisions in the middle of term,
The clean tear where uncomfortable centuries used to sit,
And learn to read off pages still damp from the press.

It is about training the hand not to shake.
Filling four thousand small bubbles without a stray smudge,
Pretending that merit is a clean arithmetic
Unbothered by who owns the printing press
Or who buys the leak.
