The Campus Remembers - a note for community

It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the loss of one of our fellow undergraduates, Rakshan, a B.Tech student in the 2025 batch. The incident took place on the morning of Thursday, August 6th.

The entire QUARKS community offers its deepest condolences to his family and friends. The sorrow and pain of watching someone you knew well fade away and disappear so abruptly is indeed difficult to endure. In such troubled times, we stand with the parents, friends, and everyone who is grief-stricken and shocked by this incident.

On Friday (7th August), the entire campus community gathered at the Student Council office to offer condolences and share the fond memories of our young friend. His friends, seniors, classmates, and acquaintances shared their experiences and recollections. Classmates and peers shared heartfelt stories, remembering him as a vibrant, kind-hearted individual whose loss leaves a deep void on our campus.

These are hard times for the UG community. However, we shall not forget that any challenge or calamity – no matter how difficult or daunting – cannot defeat the human spirit. Even in our tough moments, there is strength in leaning on one another and reaching out for support. We (the UG community) are all in this together.

During the gathering on 7th August, students also highlighted the need to address mental health concerns amid stress, academic pressure, and personal challenges; the lack of student representatives on the wellness center committee was also raised. To conclude the memorial, the attendees lit candles to honor his memory and offer prayers for his peace.

On 10th August, the IISc administration also held a condolence meeting. A large number of people showed up offering condolences to their peers. A floral tribute was performed by all students in reverence and remembrance of our dear peer, Rakshan.
